Job Description

The Department of Engineering Technology at Old Dominion University invites applicants for a Lecturer of Electrical Engineering Technology ( EET ) to begin in Fall 2025. This is an annual 10-month non-tenure-track appointment will begin July 25, 2025. The department is committed to recruiting, supporting, and fostering a diverse community of outstanding faculty, undergraduate students, and staff.

The primary responsibilities for this position are as follows:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in the Electrical Engineering Technology (https://catalog.odu.edu/undergraduate/engineering-technology/engineering-technology/engineering-technology-electrical-bset/) program, both on campus and through distance education through ODU Global, in areas such as DC and AC circuits, electronic devices and circuits, digital electronics, linear electronics, microprocessors, programming, electric power, and programmable logic controllers.

  • Contribute to systematic planning and development of the electrical engineering technology program.

  • Participate in the professional and intellectual community through professional and university service and outreach activities within the college and department.

  • Advise senior design capstone projects within their area of expertise.

  • Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion ( DEI ) among students, faculty, and staff.

    Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications

By May 2025, the candidate must have a M.S. in Engineering Technology, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.

Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities

Experience in the broad domain of Electrical Engineering Technologies, emphasizing electrical and electronics engineering technology, embedded systems technology, industrial controls & automation technology, or power systems technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Engineering Technology, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • A clearly articulated teaching philosophy that maps with the department areas of need listed in the requirements section.

  • Familiarity and capability to teach in online settings both synchronously and asynchronously.

  • A commitment to service and contributions to relevant academic and professional groups.

  • Experience teaching electrical engineering technology-related courses in an academic setting.

  • Industry or consulting experience related to the specialties outlined in the minimum requirements above.

About the College

Old Dominion University’s Frank Batten College of Engineering Technology has the unique advantage of having both engineering technology and engineering programs. About the Department

The Engineering Technology (ET) department comprises 17 faculty and about 740 undergraduate students. The Manufacturing Engineering Technology program has been recently established in the college with expected growth in enrollment through various pipelines with community colleges and partnerships with the manufacturing industry in the Commonwealth and beyond. Current research areas include engineering education, structural mechanics, next-generation communications systems, trustworthy AI, cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability and resilience. The ET Department offers a B.S. in Engineering Technology degree with majors in Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology, as well as opportunities to select electives in multiple areas that prepare industry-ready graduates. The faculty conducts research in collaboration with the NSF , ONR , NASA , Virginia Space Grant Consortium, and industry. Active student chapters include SME , ASNE , SAE , ASHRAE , SWE , NSBE , and SHPE .
