Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, LLC Engineer III – Electrical Powertrain Controls Test Engineer in Raymond, Ohio
Project and team management, including breaking down project concept details into required development activities and deciding the overall ECU development plan, correlating technical project details with key stakeholders, negotiating the schedule for deliverables, and informing and confirming details with technical leadership as required. Engineering specification design for Powertrain ECU applications, including electrical circuit hardware and software in tools such as MATLAB Simulink or MS VISIO. Deciding the best implementation for converting design concepts into requirements and functional specifications, then conducting design reviews with technical leadership. May lead other engineers on project-specific complex implementations and best practices. Engineering troubleshooting, root cause analysis and solution design, including working hands-on in prototype or mass production level vehicles to identify Powertrain electronics functional issues and deciding the steps required for resolution. Testing and verification of ECU specifications related to hardware and software, including performing testing in prototype or mass production level vehicles related to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) or verification of technical change points to ensure proper electrical functional performance, quality and reliability, and accountable to create test result reports and conduct verification reviews with technical leadership. Improvement and innovation, including may lead small groups of engineers on specific investigations of new processes or technologies which improve Powertrain electronic system performance, development capability or efficiency, making project proposals to management, setting direction for the best implementation and accountability to report progress on technical activity, budget and schedule. Cyber security requirement analysis and implementation verification, including working together with cyber security specialists to understand the security requirements needed for Powertrain ECU applications, creating and verifying related specifications and working with ECU suppliers on implementations. Less than five indirect reports; this role relates to teaching/coaching other members.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering; 2 years of experience analyzing Powertrain ECU measured data to find vehicle problems or make conclusions about ECU functions using MS Excel or MATLAB or equivalent tools; 1 year of experience creating validation specifications for Powertrain Electronic Control Units (ECU) functions in the automotive industry; 1 year of experience creating report documents using MS PowerPoint or equivalent tools; 1 year of experience changing Powertrain ECU calibration data or collecting ECU data using ETAS INCA or equivalent tool; and 1 year of experience communicating with engineers from other departments, organizations or suppliers. 20% domestic and/or international travel required. May work from any location in Ohio subject to company hybrid work policy.
