Summary of the Role

Responsible for developing and assessing the Operational Resilience Second Line of Defense (SLOD) Program, tools and methodologies in line with regulatory requirements to enable the achievement of MUFG’s strategic objectives. This program covers regulatory requirements across the Combined US Operations (CUSO).

Responsible for establishing collaborative relationships across MUFG entities in the US, using excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, the role will influence and advise senior management in the implementation of the Operational Resilience program. As the second line lead for Operational Resilience, this role will oversee the implementation of sustainable and practical solutions for the management of operational resilience within the first line of defense. This role will also support the ongoing maturity of the Operational Resilience program through collaboration with the Head of Resiliency and working with various business partners aligned to existing programs related to Operational Resilience.

The role will require detailed knowledge of the Interagency Paper: Sound Practices to Strengthen Operational Resilience as well as FFIEC requirements related to Business Continuity Risk Management . Demonstrable experience of successfully developing and establishing programs, policies, and tools and the related capabilities in similar financial services institutions is required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining an overarching operational resilience policy

  • Responsible for building awareness and understanding of Operational Resilience across CUSO

  • Responsible for maintaining strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders

  • Responsible for developing the methodology to enable identification of critical operations

  • Responsible for establishing and managing process to monitor resilience critical operations:

  • Define requirements for monitoring and metrics

  • Assess and report adherence to program requirements

  • Responsible for establishing and assessing the process to set and review Impact Tolerances on a periodic basis or following a trigger event

  • Responsible for escalation of non-compliance or risk appetite breaches through the established escalation paths

Work Experience

Required:

  • 6+ years’ experience in either operational resilience, operational risk, or business continuity risk management

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and core competencies across the key areas of Operational Resilience Business Resilience, Technology/Cyber Resilience, Third Party Resilience, ongoing monitoring, and/or risk governance

  • Previous experience working in the financial services sector

Preferred:

  • Experience in driving and shaping program strategy as well as the implementation of program uplift and change

  • Previous experience working in a regulatory change program

Additional Skills and Experience

Project Management skills

  • Ability to identify and resolve risks and issues, or prompt escalation to manager if they are not able to be resolved

  • Use project management experience and knowledge to drive focus on effective and timely delivery of activities, managing the critical path and reporting regularly on status of deliverables

  • Ability to develop solutions to complex problems and makes recommendations to the relevant governance committees

Communication & influencing skills

  • Advocate for operational resilience and builds strong relationships with senior stakeholders across all business areas to ensure deliver and embedder of operational resilience throughout the organization

  • Ability to build collaborative relationships across the business, working closely with internal customers

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, persuades and includes others using a range of approaches to achieve deliverables

  • Highly flexible and adaptable to change, self-motivated and able to independently drive results

  • Highly organized, strong attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills

The typical base pay range for this role is between $125K - $160K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
